Now that...

...the first test is almost won, I guess the team for the Australian tour pretty much selects itself - more or less. The main objective is to avoid a complete embarrassment - like 91-92 & 99-00.

Openers:
Jaffer has just picked himself. Gambhir - definite option. Karthik needs to prove himself in the next two tests. If not him, just pick someone else as backup. Shouldn't matter.

Experience...definitely required down under. So, the Fab Four obviously. But Dada (despite your second innings heroics - batting & bowling), please make this your last series. Please give way to Yuvi. And Sachin, Dravid & Laxman should make the Australia series their last. I mean, having seen a Sharjah tri-series in '98 (I think), where Henry Olonga did a major dance (the kind seen after NFL touchdowns) after scalping Sachin, and Sachin came back in the next game and made Olonga regret taking up cricket.....and now to see Sachin attempt a suicidal second run to avoid facing Shoain Chuckther (Yes. I know. My opinion and all that fun stuff) and get himself runout in the process.....tch, tch, tch!
Dravid - well he is not playing his natural game.
Bottom line - the sooner Rohit Sharma & Robin Uthappa get blooded, the better for Indian cricket.

So Sachin, Dravid, Laxman & Yuvi.
And the sooner the new Fab Four becomes Robin, Rohit, Yuvi & Mahi, the better.

Of course Dhoni.

Quickies - please, please, please, please drop Munaf. He don't got it.
Zak, R.P.Singh, Sreesanth & Ishant Sharma (I guess) should do.

Spinners - I think Kumble is done. He is not going to find too many Kotla type wickets over there. Just go with Bhajji, Murali Karthik & Piyush Chawla or even Pragyan Ojha. Shouldn't matter. Can't think of a single test won down under with spin - a legitimate test, that is. the 77-78 series don't count.

That makes it 15. Fine. Lets just add Rohit Sharma (preferred over Uthappa, for the tests). That makes it 16.

Last, but not the least, if not Kumble, might as well make Dhoni the captain. Why not.

Go Team India.

But then, that's just my opinion.
